|Description||Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy is a non-profit, charitable organization that strives to address the changing needs of people in Ontario with cerebral palsy by way of the following core activities: |
* Assisting persons with cerebral palsy and their families with education, funding for equipment, planning for the future, and accessing community services;
* Funding assistance for member groups that provide services, programs, and housing in all parts of Ontario;
* Supporting and funding the most advanced and highest quality cerebral palsy medical research;
* Advocating and promoting awareness, understanding, and acceptance of persons with cerebral palsy.
PROGRAMS & SERVICES
Household Pickup Service
This service picks up clothing and small household items. To schedule a pick up call 416-244-0899 or 1-877-244-0899 or contact us for pick up by clicking on our donation link located at the top right-hand corner of our website, www.ofcp.ca.
* Barrie is the furthest north they pick up outside of Toronto (1-877-244-9686)
* Collingwood, Owen Sound and points west and south are serviced out of Cambridge (1-888-238-6327)
* They don't pick-up in Muskoka.
* There are several OFCP clothing donations bins in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.
Long Term Planning & Support Program:
Assists families with developing a long term plan to secure the quality of life for their family member with cerebral palsy. The program offers Life Plan development including future care and emergency plans, as well as education and assistance to families regarding Trusts, Wills and Powers of Attorney. The program also provides services to the individual with cerebral palsy after the parents are no longer able to do so -- these support services can include:
* home visits
* support to the trustees
* responding to urgent needs as they arise.

Planning Services Program:
The Purpose of the Planning Services Program is to improve the quality of life for people with cerebral palsy through a range of individualized services. The program offers:
* initial consultations
* home visits
* independent person-centred planning
* information resources on services, programs and products.

Children & Families Program:
The Children & Families Program supports and responds to requests from families of parents with children with cerebral palsy by offering:
* information and resources that will assist in caring for their child.

OFCP Assistive Devices Funding Program:
This is a financial assistance program for the purchase of equipment for persons with cerebral palsy of all ages in the Province of Ontario. Categories of equipment include:
* Communication and Writing Aids
* Enteral Feeding Equipment; Orthotic Devices
* Respiratory Equipment
* Wheelchairs, Positioning and Ambulation Aids
* Home Accessibility Aids
* Bathing, Washroom Aids
* Electronic Aids for Daily Living
* Hospital Beds and Mattresses
* Car Seats

OFCP Activity Funding Program:
This program is available to persons with cerebral palsy in the province of Ontario whom are members of the OFCP. The purpose of the Activity Funding Program is to provide opportunities to persons with cerebral palsy to participate in structured and meaningful community activities and/or vacations or camps of their choice. It is our hope that this assistance will allow individuals to learn new skills and gain experiences that will improve their quality of life. Membership Services Program:
Membership Services offers a variety of services for Individual Members and Group Members. Individual Membership is open to all people with cerebral palsy, their parents/family members as well as professionals/supporters who have an interest in the welfare of persons with cerebral palsy. Individual members who have cerebral palsy are eligible to apply for funding assistance from OFCP for equipment, vacation and community based day programs. Group Members of OFCP are non-profit organizations who provide services to people with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities in their communities. Educational & Recreational Services:

The goal of the Educational and Recreational Services Program is to improve the quality of life through education for people with cerebral palsy. The program offers:
* public speaking
* printed audio/visual materials.

Ontario Service Information Database:
This online database is an information and referral service that lists products and services throughout Ontario. The database provides people with cerebral palsy, family members, friends, and service providers with up-to-date information. The Database is for people of all ages. It can be searched online or by contacting the OFCP. Contact: Linda Woodhams at ext. 238 email: email@example.com if you wish to update your listing.
InformAction Newsletter: The OFCP has a newsletter entitled InformAction that is mailed out free of charge to anyone wishing to receive it. If you would like to be on the mailing list or would like to submit an article for publication you can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cerebral palsy is a physical disability caused by damage to the cerebellum, often during pregnancy, or at birth. It affects a person's muscle control, but does not get worse as a person gets older. It is not hereditary, not contagious, but there is no cure yet.
